We (Cape Cross Homes) have for almost two years been searching for a company to supply timber frame homes. A company that offers a wide selection of wood species, a company that practices current energy and environmentally efficient construction, was located within a reasonable distance of our market and was well established. Riverbend Timber Framing is that company. We have recently concluded an agreement with Riverbend to be their exclusive representatives in central and southern Ontario. Riverbend met all of our qualifications and more, some examples are;

• Wood species
  Oak (red and white) and Douglas Fir are the main species but they have produced frames from pine, cedar, dead standing fir, reclaimed timber and engineered wood products.
• Energy and the Environment
  Riverbend closes in their timber frames with “structural insulated panels” (SIPs) in a variety of insulation levels. These panels are attached to the outside of the frames resulting in near zero air infiltration installation. Energy savings of 50%+ are common when compared to conventional “code” built homes. About 20% less wood is used in most of Riverbends homes as well. In addition Riverbend through one of their sister companies supplies “insulated concrete forms” (ICFs) for the basements/foundations. This product adds further to energy savings while providing a very strong and durable foundation.
• Location
  The two factories that the above products are shipped from are within a seven hour drive. One is in southern Ontario and the other is in southeast Michigan.
• History
  Riverbend started producing timber frame homes since 1979. In 2004 they joined the PFB family. PFB is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta and is a public company traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange. (PFB)
• Design/Service
  Riverbend offers a complete design service but often works with clients, builder’s and architects. Site supervision is also part of each home package.

Cape Cross Home is located in Huntsville Ontario. We offer a full service to our clients, including site evaluation, preliminary design and pricing and complete construction service. We also work with our client’s builders to provide design services and the primary structural components and any site assistant needed.
